Basement Conversion Versus Loft Conversion?

Basement Childrens Play Area
Basement children's play area, more suitable than a loft conversion.

If you are one of the thousands of Londoners who could do with some additional living space, the question of whether to have a basement conversion, or to go up and convert your loft could be on your mind.

Extending your property with a loft space can make a real difference to your home, giving you an additional bedroom or even two, and usually space for an en-suite bathroom, and of course most people have a loft.

Retrofit Basements

However, not every home in London has a basement, but please don’t let this put you off; you do not need an existing basement to have a basement conversion!

The creation of a basement space beneath your property is termed as  “retrospective basement conversion” (Retrofit) and can be created beneath almost any home.  The space beneath your feet can open up your home to a world of possibilities:-

Basements Provide Added Flexibility

A basement kitchen, an annexe for when friends and relatives come to stay, or maybe a playroom for the children, a home office space, even a swimming pool, really anything you can imagine.  A basement conversion gives a little more flexibility than converting your loft.

From converting the simplest cellar, to complex projects such as creating rooms beneath your garden, or even a basement below an existing basement, we have the experience, skill and expertise to make your dream home a reality.

We take your project on from the initial planning stage, liaising with our specialist architects and engineers, right the way through the paint finish and the smallest of design detail.

We will submit the relevant documentation to the local authority on your behalf, dealing with all aspects of any necessary planning permission and/or building regulations.

A full retro basement conversion is a major construction project on your home, but with our experience, knowledge and co-operative approach, disruption is kept to the absolute minimum.  The site access and entry area is hoarded off from the rest of your home.  We will have a separate temporary WC facilities.  Noise and dust pollution will kept to the absolute minimum as your health and safety is our paramount concern.

We think the basement conversion option wins, but we are of course biased!  Take a look at our gallery and case studies for some real inspiration…
